The Center for Total Back Care is pleased to begin offering virtual physical therapy and e-visits for new and existing patients. Telemedicine physical therapy refers to physical therapy services provided over technology instead of in-person office visits, from the comfort of your home by smart phone, tablet, or computer.
Due to these unprecedented times we understand the importance of continuing to receive therapy for those who are in pain or need rehabilitation and are in quarantine. Our clinic still remains open but for more high-risk individuals who remain home we have implemented telehealth visits using doxy.me an easy to use and secure telemedicine solution which is available on your smartphone, tablet, or desktop.
A physical therapy telehealth session is not much different from an in-person session. You will begin by scheduling an appointment by reaching out to us at 480-633-8293from there we just ask that you create some space at your home and are ready for your designated appointment time with the device you will be using in hand. You will then receive an invitation link to join a session where you will meet with your physical therapist.
This is where depending on where you are at in your treatment you will receive either a consultation, follow up from your previous visit, and regular therapy where you will do specific stretches and exercises. Virtual physical therapy visits generally last anywhere from 5-30+ minutes depending on your individual needs. Following your session, you will be given specific stretches and exercises to do until your next appointment.
Can virtual physical therapy be covered by insurance?
Yes, virtual physical therapy is now covered by the 4 major insurance providers and all telehealth copays are waived during this time. The insurance providers who currently support remote physical therapy include:
- Blue Cross/ Blue Shield
- United Healthcare
Can a telehealth physical therapy visit really be effective?
Yes, telehealth physical therapy visits can be just as effective as an in-office appointment! We have begun implementing e-visits among our current patients who have to stay at home and they have experienced great success in their journey to recovery. Other than the success we have seen in our clinic, a recent study by UC Irvine School of Medicine showed that telehealth physical therapy was just as effective as in-clinic therapy when improving upper extremity motor control. We are happy to offer our Telehealth services to the east valley including Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe, Scottsdale, and Phoenix.
